Veteran's Day

I have never really realized the real importance of Veteran's Day. About the only thing I knew about it was that it happened every November 11 and it was a day off from school. I now realize that there is a lot more to Veteran's Day than a day off of work or school.

I spent some time today looking through the cookbook that my Grandpa Carey used during WWII while he was serving in the Coast Guard as a cook. It made me appericate what he did for our country. I did not get to hear his war stories from him personally; however, the one I did hear makes me appericate that he made it back home alive. He was serving in the South Pacific on a tug boat, the tug was pushing a barge and my Grandma Carey does not remember whether the tug or the barge got hit by an underwater mine and caused it to blow-up. However, everybody aboard made it safely back to port.

I really appericate what our veterans and currently serving armed forces do for this country and that they are willing to risk their lives to keep us safe. Thank you for keeping us safe.
